Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute
Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute (Deemed University) had its inception in the year 1985 as a private not-for-profit self-financing institution, and it was dedicated to serve the society as a centre of excellence with emphasis on medical education, research and health care. In view of its academic excellence, the Government of India granted the status of Deemed University to Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute in September 1994 under the provisions of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956.
The Deemed University has been established by Sri Ramachandra Educational & Health Trust. The Trust achieved the task of establishing this Institute as a “Centre of Excellence” under the leadership of Late Shri.N.P.V.Ramasamy Udayar who was the Founder & Managing Trustee of the Trust and also the first Chancellor of the Deemed University. Shri. V.R.Venkatachalam is currently the Chancellor and also the Managing Trustee of the Trust.
The objective of the institution is to have the facility raised and developed to a level comparable to any major medical establishment in advanced countries. With this goal in mind, the Trust, in close co-operation of and guidance from professional experts in administration and teaching, has developed this sprawling 175 acres green campus to a level of a prestigious University today. In the last 16 years, further milestones have been reached and on April 1, 1997 an inter-institutional alliance between Harvard Medical International, USA and Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute was signed. This major step in the growth of the institution has further lead the institution towards quality in the areas of medical education, health care and research and enhanced its visibility in international level.
The University offers, at present 43 Medical and allied courses at postgraduate level for qualified graduates and 8 courses at the undergraduate level for +2 (12th grade) students in medical, dental, para-medical and allied health sciences disciplines through the following constituent colleges located within the campus: Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute; Sri Ramachandra Dental College; Sri Ramachandra College of Physiotherapy; Sri Ramachandra College of Pharmacy; Sri Ramachandra College of Nursing; and Sri Ramachandra College of Allied Health Sciences. At present nearly 2,500 students are receiving their teaching and training within the University Campus.

Facilities:
Sri Ramachandra University offers basic facilities in the University campus including 24hr broadband internet connectivity, Bank Counter, ATM, Shopping centre and Travel desk. Hostel accommodation is also available for outstation students. A fully equipped gymnasium, recreation halls for games and infotainment are other facilities provided in the hostels. The Library at the University offers a fully automated Book Bank, Photocopying facility, Internet, online journals and Question bank for the students.
