Jawaharlal Institute of Post-graduate Medical Education and Research Pondicherry is one of the premier medical colleges and hospitals in India. The origin of JIPMER can be traced to 1823 when a medical school called Ecole de Medicine de Pondicherry was established by French government. After Pondicherry’s transfer to India, Government of India took over the medical college in 1956. In 1964, the medical college was upgraded as a Regional Centre and was christened as Jawaharlal Institute of Post-graduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER).

The hospital is under the direct administrative control of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.

How To Get Into JIPMER?
Undergraduate:
Admission is done on the basis of entrance examination conducted at Pondicherry, Chennai, Hyderabad, New Delhi, Calcutta and Tiruvananthapuram.
Paramedical: Admission is done on the basis of the candidate’s performance in the Common Entrance Test conducted. For B Sc and M Sc the common entrance test is conducted at the institute.
Post Graduate:
Admission is done on the basis of the candidate’s performance in the entrance test conducted at Pondicherry and Chennai and results published within two or three days.
Diploma:
Admission is done on the basis of entrance test conducted at Pondicherry and Chennai and the results are published within two or three days.
Post Graduate Diploma:
Admission is done on the basis of entrance test conducted at Pondicherry and Chennai and the results are published within two or three days.
