Research Scholars: UGC-NET JRF/SRF is now 18k / 21k Rupees per month

Category: UGC (NET), University    |    14    |    Add a Comment  |

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has increased the Junior and Senior Research Fellowships (JRF/SRF) to 18000 and 21000 Rupees per month respectively and it will be applicable retrospectively from September 1, 2009. The YFE in JNU campus on 19 December, 2009 put up the following wall poster congratulating the student community: an RTI reply from the UGC [F. No.12-20/2009 RTI/(SA-1)] confirming the increase in fellowships.

The RTI reply from the concerned department in  UGC is in Hindi language. It also answers some questions apart from the fellowship amount increase. The UGC had earlier indicated that the increase will be 16000 and 20000 Rupees per month. So this increase is a pleasant surprise to students. This increase does not relate to the CSIR, Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowships, DBT or ICMR but sooner or later it all fellowships should be at par. Here is a snapshot of the RTI reply captured from the YFE poster. Also see the update below (this is yet to be approved by the Finance Ministry).
